I recently spent a few days staying in a cottage in the village of Dunstan, a short walk from the coastal village of Craster which is famous for it's Kippers. During the few days I spent there I visited 3 Northumberland Wildlife Trust reserves (Hauxley, East Chevington & Druridge Pools), a boat trip round Coquet Island (RSPB), Long Nanny Beadnell Bay Bird Sanctuary (National Trust) and finally a 2nd boat trip to the fabulous Farne Islands. During my two boat trips I saw thousands of Puffins, Guillemots and Kittiwakes. On the Farne Islands there were also hundreds of Arctic Terns nesting and during my stay I saw 5 other species of Tern - Common, Sandwich, Little, Black and the very rare Roseate Tern whilst on the boat trip round Coquet Island.
I also visited places like Seahouses, Amble, Bamburgh, Craster and ventured out onto Holy Island at low tide where I saw numerous Eider Ducks, Oystercatchers, Ringed Plovers and Rock Pipits. I have attached a quite a few photos from my superb visit to Northumberland and from my quick visit to WWT Washington near Sunderland on the way home below.
