Dyfi Osprey Project
Our first port of call on day 2 of my Welsh trip we visited the Dyfi Osprey Project, we were however a few minutes early and the reserve was not yet open, so we stopped in a laybay overlooking the Dyfi River Estuary.
We were also able to see Canada Geese, Little Egrets, Herring Gulls and a Male Bullfinch.
From here we were able to see the Domen Las hide at RSPB Ynys-hir where the Oystercatchers were on their nest. It was now 10am so we headed for the Dyfi Osprey Project.
Once there we went to the Bird hide at the entrance to the reserve, here we spotted Lesser Redpoll, Siskin, Blackbirds, Dunnocks, Chaffinches, Robins & a Song Thrush.
From here we walked along the boardwalk to the second hide, along the way we spotted Sedge Warblers & Reed Warblers. In the distance we were able to see the Reserve's grazing Water Buffalo. The second hide overlooks a body of water, sadly we did not spot anything but the wild flower Yellow Flag. Next we moved onto the 360 Observatory to see the Ospreys.
We made our way up to the top of the observatory and through the scopes we were albe to see the Reserve's resident Ospreys on their nest - Monty & Glesni. They currently have 3 chicks on the nest, which you are able to see via the Reserve's web cam shown on big screens at the top of the observatory. Whilst at the top of the observatory we also spotted Sedge Warblers, Wood Warblers & a Cetti's Warbler. After half an hour we started to make our way back to the first bird hide by the visitor centre. Whilst I was there the Lesser Redpoll & Siskins made another appearance as well as Great Spotted Woodpecker flying past the hide. Also paying a visit were Jackdaws, a pair of Buzzards and a Nuthatch.
