Bwlch Nant yr Arian

After lunch at the Dyfi Osprey Project we headed back to Aberystwyth and then onto the A44 and headed east. About 15 miles east we reached Bwlch Nant yr Arian in the Cambrian Mountains, this place is famous for it's Red Kites, as they are fed here daily (2pm in winter & 3pm in summer). At feeding time there are an estimated 150+ Red Kites soaring overhead waiting for the food to be left out for them.

There are 3 different trails for walkers, cyclists and bird watchers to explore, as it was approaching feeding time we decided to explore the Barcud Trail as this takes you to the Kite hide. There were already at least 100 Red Kites circling overhead as we made our way down the trail and round the lake to the Kite hide.

Whilst at the Kite hide the food was brought out and thrown on the ground for the Red Kites to swoop down and claim as shown in the video below.

Once the feeding was over we headed back towards the visitor centre, along the way we saw Blackbirds, Marsh Tits and a pair of Goldcrests. Back at the visitor centre we sat on the balcony to have a drink & some cake and watch the Red Kites. Also in front of the balcony is a feeder and visiting it we saw Lesser Redpolls, Siskins & House Sparrows. I have attached a few photos of the Red Kites and House Sparrows bellow as well as the sightings at the top of the article.
