STONECHAT

The Stonechat is usually found on top of gorse, heather, trees and sometimes on wire.  The male has a black head and throat with a white neck patch and rufous breast with a white belly.  It has a black back, wings and tail with little bars of white.  The female is browner in appearance instead of the mostly black seen on the male.  There are 15,000 pairs resident in the UK and I have seen this bird at RSPB Minsmere & RSPB Leighton Moss.
