STOCK DOVE

The Stock Dove is noticeably smaller than its more common cousin the Wood Pigeon and is not quite as common either.  The Stock Dove is a bluish grey in colour with a shiny emerald patch on its neck and none of the white found on a Wood Pigeon and has darker grey edges to its wings and tail.  There are 300,000 pairs in the UK and can be found in lowlands, upland moors, cliffs, quarries, woodland and gardens.  This bird is also an occasional visitor to our garden.  The Stock Dove is one of four species of Dove found in the UK with the other three being Rock, Collared and Turtle.
