REED BUNTING

The Reed Bunting is one of 19 species of Bunting seen in the UK with the Lapland, Snow, Yellowhammer, Ciril, Corn & Reed being the ones regularly seen in the UK at various times of the year.  The other 13 are rare visitors.  The male has a black head with a white neck and moustache, greyish white breast with a black & brown striped back, wings and tail.  The female is similar to the male except that the head is a dark brown and has a cream coloured stripe across the eye.  The juvenile has a speckled brown and black head, before developing a full black head the following summer.  There are currently 185,000 pairs across the UK and I have managed to see this bird at various different places but I have got my best photos at RSPB Fairburn Ings.
