POCHARD

The Common Pochard is a medium size diving duck and is the one of two species of Pochard found in the UK with the other being the Red Crested.  The body of the Pochard is light grey with the tail , part of the neck and top of the breast being black.  The head is a deep reddish brown with a red eye and black beak.  The female is grey and brown apart from a fully brown head and black beak & eye.  There are 600 pairs breeding with it being more of a winter visitor with the number of Pochards rising to 38,000.

Length: 42-49cm (16½-19½in)

Wingspan: 72-82cm (28-32in)

Weight: 700-1,000g (25-36oz)

Average Life: 8-10 years
