PIED FLYCATCHER

The Pied Flycatcher is one of 6 species of Flycatcher seen in the UK with the Brown, Collared, Taiga & Red-breasted that are quite rare with the common ones being Spotted and Pied.  The Pied Flycatcher is black and white in colour with long wingtips and short, dark legs.  Found in oak woods in the western half of the UK, mainly in Wales and South West England.  There are 38,000 pairs between April and August and  I saw this bird for the first time in May 2017 at RSPB Ynys-hir.

Length: 13cm (5in)

Wingspan: 21-24cm (8½-9½in)

Weight: 12-15g (½oz)

Average Life: 3-5 years
