OYSTERCATCHER

The Oystercatcher, also know as the Eurasian Oystercatcher, Common Pied Oystercatcher and Palaearctic Oystercatcher is one of 12 species of Oystercatcher and the only one found in the UK.  This bird is also the national bird of the Faroe Islands.  All black and white apart from its long orange beak and legs can be found on coasts, upland meadows and estuaries.  There are currently 113,000 pairs with the number rising to 340,000 in the winter found in the UK.  Again I have seen the Oystercatcher at most reserves around the country, but the best view I had was at RSPB Ynys-hir, Wales in May 2017.  Coming to the last hide of the day, on a slate wall between the hide and the River Dyfi, there sat an Oystercatcher on a nest.
