OSPREY

The Osprey is a large, long-winged bird of prey and can be quite a rare sight in the UK apart from Scotland and parts of north west England and west Wales.  The Osprey is dark brown above and white below, has a blackish brown stripe across the piercing yellow eye on its white head.  A rare summer visitor, there are only 210 pairs in the UK found near lakes, rivers, estuaries and adjacent forest areas.  I have been lucky enough to see an Osprey three times: the first time in Canada in 2012, the second time in Yorkshire sat on a stack of hay bales near Ripon and the last time at the Dyfi Osprey Project in west Wales.
