MUTE SWAN

The Mute Swan is a large bird in the waterfowl family, all white apart from it's orange beak and partially black face with the juvenile being grey with a black beak.  The Mute Swan is one of 4 species of Swan found in the UK with the others being Whooper, Bewick and Black.  There are currently 80,000 pairs in the UK and can be found on lakes, reservoirs, wetlands, rivers and grassy fields.

Length: 1.4-1.6m (4½-5¼ft)

Wingspan: 2.08-2.38m (6¾-7¾ft)

Weight: 10-12kg (22-26lb)

Average Life: 15-20 years
