MOORHEN

The Moorhen, sometimes known as the Marsh Hen, is a member of the rail family and is very similar in size and shape to the Coot.  The Moorhen is all black apart from its red and yellow beak, red eyes, yellow feet and a couple of slim streaks of white on its body and wings.  The Moorhen can be found in all types of waterside and there are currently 240,000 pairs breeding in the UK.

Length: 32-35cm (12½-14in)

Wingspan: 50-55cm (20-22in)

Weight: 250-420g (9-15oz)

Average Life: 15 years
