MALLARD
One of the most common birds in the UK, the Mallard is one of the only birds found on every continent. The male has a distinctive green head, mottled rufous chest and mainly grey body with orange legs. The female is a mottled brown and grey in colour with bright orange legs. Both male and female have a yellow beak and there are an estimated 100,000 pairs in the UK with that number rising to 650,000 during the winter.
