MAGPIE

The Magpie, like the Jay, is a member of the Crow family but is far more common in the UK.  A third bigger than the Jay, the Magpie is black and white in colour with a longer tail as well.  There are currently 590,000 pairs resident in the UK and they can be found woods, farmland, bushes, suburbs and parks.  In 2017 we had a pair of Magpies nesting in a tree at the back of the garden.  These birds can be very loud and noisy when gathering in groups.
