LITTLE EGRET

The Little Egret is a small Heron, once a rarity in the UK, now fairly widespread apart from Scotland.  All white in colour except its black beak and legs and yellow feet, the Little Egret tends to breed alongside the Grey Heron in Heronries.  There are 900 pairs currently breeding in the UK with the number of Little Egrets rising to 4,800 in the winter. 

Length: 11.5cm (4½in)

Wingspan: 17-21cm (6½-8½in)

Weight: 8-10g (¼-½oz)

Average Life: 2-3 years
