LESSER REDPOLL
The Lesser Redpoll is the smallest, brownest and most streaked of the Redpolls with 3 species being found in the UK, Common, Lesser and Arctic. The Lesser Redpoll is the one usually seen in the UK with the Common Redpoll being a rare winter visitor and the Arctic Redpoll even more so. The back of the Lesser Redpoll is brown, the belly mostly white with brown streaks and a reddish upper breast. The Lesser Redpoll has a red cap which is not present on the juveniles. There are currently 25,000 pairs that visit during the winter.
