HOUSE SPARROW

The House Sparrow is a small finch like bird found right across the UK.  The male has a grey band on the crown with a reddish brown hindneck,, pale greyish white cheeks and a black throat and bib.  The underside is pale grey and the wings & tail a variety of brown shades.  The female is less distinctive pale brown and grey.  This a common bird and there are an estimated 6 million pairs across the UK found in suburban areas, gardens, parks, farmland and coastal grassland / scrub.

Wingspan: 20-22cm (8-9in)

Weight: 19-25g (¾oz)

Average Life: 2-5 years
