The Cormorant, sometimes know as the Great Cormorant, is one of over 40 species of Cormorant & Shag, of which only the Great Cormorant & European Shag are the only ones found in the UK.  The Cormorant is a large distinctive water bird commonly found on inland waters across the UK and there are currently  14,000 breeding pairs with that number rising to 37,000 in the winter.  Mostly blackish in colour with bits of white on the chin and thigh, yellow round the eye and part of the beak.

Weight: 8-10g (¼-½oz)

Average Life: 2-3 years
