This tiny bird, which is close to a Goldcrest in its size, has no blue, green or yellow like its more commonly seen relatives the Blue and Great Tits.  The Coal Tit has a black and white head with a greyish back and a bright beige coloured breast.  In the UK there are currently an estimated 600,000 pairs breeding across the UK usually found in woodland, scrub and thickets.  This bird is an occasional visitor to my garden but I see it more often at Fairburn Ings and High Batts.
