BRAMBLING

The Brambling is a member of the Finch family and is sometimes known as "Cock O' The North" and "Mountain Finch".  The Brambling is similar in size to the Chaffinch, but is orange and black in colour with a white breast and will often be found feeding alongside Chaffinches under trees, in fields and picking up seeds dropped  from bird tables.  The Brambling is a scarce winter visitor which can be seen in the UK between September and April.  I have only ever seen this Finch at High Batts north of Ripon.
